Tour of California, Stage 1, May 11, 2014.
Overall, rather challenging to find a good camera perspective to take a look at the movement skills. Nevertheless, interesting to see the Quick Step and Sky boys leading the way in the cross wind; looked as if it might work but too far from the finish and no cobbles to make it stick. Rather well organized effort, all hands on deck, and I wonder if the intent may have been to soften the Cannondale group somewhat. Tenderizing the beef so to speak.
Towards the finish, it always amazes me how people like Renshaw can flat with 10 km or so to go and then make a contribution towards the sprint. At first it looked like Degenkolb had held off Cavendish. And Cav made a humongous effort to scoot around Sagan 4th (which was surprising since he was fully engaged) and win by a whisker. A reasonably good look at the skill sets, and I am seeing more of a SBHH from Cav, rotation is still a significant feature and in fact both skill sets may/will turn out to be blended together.
